Have you ever looked at your electric bill and thought, "Wow, that is way too high"? Now, consider that same problem on a much larger scale, for a cloud provider hosting thousands of computers at once. That is a very high cost. NeoLogic thinks they can solve this problem by changing the way CPUs (the brains of computers) are designed. That sounds exciting!

I am a big fan of people tackling old problems with new solutions. CPUs have not changed very much in their energy consumption, but NeoLogic is trying to make processors which will be faster and consume less energy.

NeoLogic's Intentions

So how is NeoLogic going to do it? NeoLogic is not just planning to increase the horsepower of CPUs and provide them more power, rather they want to make the interior design of the CPUs:

• Low power consumption: CPUs that consume energy responsibly.

• More designed intelligence: Waste less, go faster.

• Data Center oriented: This design is for data centers not for personal computers.

Have you ever seen how hot a data center gets? Data centers get hot because they take in significant energy and emit a substantial amount of heat. If NeoLogic reduces the energy then potentially you also reduce costs of cooling.

Why this matters

Data centers are the backbone of the internet. Every time you scroll through Instagram, send an email, or save a photo to the cloud, a data center is working away in the background. However, maintaining data centers is expensive.

NeoLogic's chips provide:

• The ability to reduce electric bills.
• Help the planet, less energy consumption means less pollution.
• Speed. We all want websites and apps to load quickly.

Who wouldn't want cheaper, faster and greener technology?

My thoughts

Let’s face it - many companies in the past have said they would change CPUs. Some have failed. Yet NeoLogic looks different by focusing on all the data centers of the world instead of shiny laptops. Just 10% savings in the power consumed in a data centre can lead to millions of dollars in savings!
