Hi all members, hope all are doing well. BTW, have you ever updated a Firefox extension only for it to crash your browser? So annoying, right? Well, Mozilla made it simpler. Firefox add-on developers can now rollback their last update if it caused things to stop working.
1. Visit the Status & Versions page in Developer Hub.
2. Select the "Rollback to a previous version" option adjacent to the option to once again click "Upload a New Version."
3. Republish the working version, which will automatically update users through Firefox.
It's that easy.
Why This Is Helpful
You may have run into this too — update an extension, and everything works fine, until it suddenly does not. Before which was frustrating for everyone, developers had to repair it quickly, while users had to wait for the developers to at least revive the previously stable version. Now, with the rollback feature, developers can revert back to a previous version if their add-ons stop working after an update. Users just getting on Firefox will have in about 24 hours if they follow the auto-update setting. How Rollback Works
Rollback is simple for developers:- They need at least two approved versions of their extension.
- They republish the old version using the Developer Hub or Add-on Submission API.
- Firefox updates users automatically to the safe version, so most people will not even know there was an issue.
Safer and Smarter
This feature is not just an added convenience, but more importantly, it keeps users safer. Earlier this year, there were some scam crypto wallet extensions on Firefox. Now developers can roll back updates quickly if the update doesn't work properly or is otherwise insecure.Steps for Developers
If you develop Firefox add-ons, you simply:1. Visit the Status & Versions page in Developer Hub.
2. Select the "Rollback to a previous version" option adjacent to the option to once again click "Upload a New Version."
3. Republish the working version, which will automatically update users through Firefox.
It's that easy.
