Are you aware of the increase in cyber attacks? Europe being attacked more recently. An article said nearly 40% of IT and cybersecurity professionals answered there are more attacks against their company or organization than there was a year ago, and the increase is considerable and concerning.

Companies are not prepared

While 65% of those asked indicated they are better aware of risk exposure, less than 40% agree their organization is sufficiently prepared to identify attacks or react to them. Cyber threats are increasing and its clear companies are behind. "65% of IT declare the increasing complexity of threat vectors now puts significant stress on them."

There was a slight increase in company budgets and personnel, but still not enough to fully support. More than half of the participants, 58%, reported their company is not fully staffed, while budgets have increased somewhat. Further, 68% of Cybersecurity professionals reported their job is more stressful than five years ago. Feeling overworked, not enough work-life balance, and not enough training can make jobs feel like a job.

Hiring and Retaining Employees is a Challenge

Recruiting and retaining Cybersecurity personnel is challenging. More than half of the organizations indicated that they are having issues with employee retention. Some organizations expressed that it takes several months to fill entry-level Cybersecurity roles. Although employers want to see a college education, the most important consideration is experience and/or certifications. Employers may retain employees better if they provided additional training or experience.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a great supplement but caution is warranted

The good news is cybersecurity teams have already been engaged with AI-based projects. Over half of these teams have been involved in AI policies/guidelines development and almost half of AI teams have been focused on developing AI tool capabilities. AI is already being used for threat detection, device security and improved efficiencies. And of course, if AI is changing as rapidly as it seems to be every month, Europe will definitely need training and guidelines if Europe is ever going to be secure from AI.

In summary, Europe sees the threat to cyber increasing, and has to become more agile on AI. Connected, the industry needs to hire more people, train better, and concerning leverage AI in an intelligent way to keep pace.

Otherwise, the hackers will leave you in the dust. And if you are in the IT field, you know it is complicated - but with a few tools, you can make a significant commitment to keeping your organization safe.
