Let's cut to the chase — Netcup has just opened a new datacenter in Virginia. If you've used Netcup in the U.S. before, you likely have an idea how slow it felt because their servers were only located in Europe. Now? Maybe things are finally going to be faster.

I have been using Netcup for a few minor projects and sites. I adore how inexpensive and stable they are. But come on — connecting from the States to their German servers? Not so much. So when I heard about this datacenter in Virginia, I thought: "Will this finally eliminate the lag at last?"

Why Choose Virginia?

Good one. Virginia is a massive internet location on the planet. A lot of major tech companies have servers there. That translates to improved internet speed, rapid connections, and speedy websites for U.S. users.

What's Improved for U.S. Users?

Here's what's different with this datacenter:
  • Faster web pages for websites in the U.S.
  • Reduced ping (shorter delay when sending data)
  • Improved uptime during peak hours
  • Improved email and CDN performance
I tried it by hosting a WordPress website from the new Virginia data center. My site loaded around 30-40% quicker for users on the U.S. East Coast compared to their German data center. Not a test in a laboratory—just my own usage.

Should You Switch?

Ask yourself these easy questions:
  • Are your visitors predominantly in the U.S.?
  • Does your site take forever sometimes?
  • Do you require speed for games, stores, or apps?
If so, then you should definitely give the Virginia datacenter a shot.

It won't change your life in an instant, but it will speed up your site and make it smooth. I've already transitioned some of my client sites to Virginia.

Give it a shot and see if it speeds up your site as well. Let me know how it turns out!
